Customs kill 29-year-old trader in Katsina

A man, Bello Abdulaziz, has alleged that operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) killed his 29-year-old brother, Amiru Abdulaziz while pursuing rice smugglers in Daddara, Katsina State.

Abdulaziz told newsmen on Wednesday in Daddara, Jabia Local Government Area of the state, that his brother was killed on Tuesday evening while coming out of his shop where he sold animal feeds.

He said: “we heard gun shots all over the town where we saw customs patrol team pursuing rice smugglers.

“The operatives began to shoot indiscriminately and the situation made people to run for their safety. The deceased was shot dead in the process.

Abdulaziz said the incident had taken away the bread winner of the family.

He said his late brother was not a smuggler and had nothing to do with smuggling activities adding that he only sold animal feeds.

He said that the deceased left behind his parents, a pregnant wife, two children and brothers.
Abdulaziz called on the authorities concerned to ensure that justice was done, adding “only justice will reduce the bitterness of his death in our hearts.”

When contacted, the spokesman of the Kaduna/Katsina Command of NCS, Mr Theophilus Duniya, said that the command had no official report of the said incident. (NAN)
