The Katsina state government has called on principals of secondary schools to redouble their efforts to reposition education in the state.

Dr Badamasi Charanchi, the state commissioner of education made the call when he addressed school principals during an interactive session held in Daura on Sunday.

He said any teacher who was not willing and ready to teach effectively should resign, stressing ‘we are determined and committed to repositioning education in this state.

Charanchi noted that the state government is paying N600 million monthly as salaries of teachers stressing I see no reason for laxity, indolence or short changing the entire system as my mandate as the new commissioner is to reposition education.

He urged the principals to ensure good management of their schools for an excellent performance, adding we expect you to report any erring teacher for necessary action.

The Commissioner advised the principals to engage in teaching of some subjects in their schools with a view to motivating their teachers not to be lazy and indigent.

He said there are no fewer than 4,957 teachers in the secondary schools across the state.

He said the state government would recruit more than 3,000 additional teachers who would be posted to the schools to address the dearth of teachers.

Charanchi described education as the bedrock of development in any society, and stressed the need for teachers to regard the custody of the students under them as a trust as they will account for their deeds in the hereafter.

He said, “Gov.Aminu Masari administration wants to see positive transformation in education. So we will continue to promote the welfare of teachers across our 341 existing secondary schools.”

Katsina Media reports that 118 principals from Daura zone attended the interactive session in which most of them raised problems of infrastructure, lack of man power and other sundry problems affecting their schools.

Charanchi was appointed Commissioner of education recently following the removal of the former Commissioner, Prof Halimatu sadiya Idris.
