Governor Masari, Abdul aziz Yari meets over security challenges

The Katsina state Governor Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has today hosted his Zamfara state counterpart Abdul Aziz Yari at the katsina state government house.

Our correspondent reports that Governor Yari thronged the state house this evening in company of the two military Brigade commanders in charge of Zamfara and Katsina states.

Earlier in his remarks Gov Yari said he was in the state to discuss issues which has to do with security matters in the popular Rugu forest which shares border with the two states.

He said the visit has become necessary especially considering the activities of hoodlums that are taking place in the forest, stressing we should intensify efforts with a view to combat criminal activities in the dreaded forest.

Gov Yari lauded the efforts of Governor Masari for his indefatigable efforts at reducing the rampant instances of cattle rustling, armed robbery and banditry in the forest, stressing we would put all hands on deck to further check the ugly trend.

He called for collaborative efforts between the two states with a view to workout permanent modalities that would ensure adequate security especially in the Rugu and Zamfara axis.

He noted that the forest has become a hiding place where the criminals took advantage of innocent citizens to commit their nefarious acts,"am extremely happy that his Excellency was working round the clock to secure the area.

Responding Gov Masari commended the Governor for the visit and described him as son of the soil, "adding you are my brother and my neighbor so you should feel at home.

He assured the visiting governor that modalities would be worked out between the military, police and other security outfits for proper handling of the situation.

He said a joint patrol between army and the Air Force would be intensified around the forest, stressing we would mount constant areal patrol of the forest, stressing we would not hesitate to deal decisively with any suspicious situation.

Masari commended the conventional security agencies and the local vigilante groups for their efforts in securing peace and stability in the area, while calling for collaborative effort as security is a collective responsibility.

He used the opportunity to formally commiserate with the visiting governor on the recent instances of sporadic attacks and kidnap activities in Zamfara state, “adding is very much sure that you have been doing your best to arrest the situation.
